THE nine football clubs vying for promotion to the National First Division (NFD) begin their tough quest on Monday (13/06).

The promotion play-offs will be staged in the Mangaung Metro, with matches taking place at the Dr R.P. Molemela Stadiumstet and the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Bloemfontein and Botshabelo, respectively.

The play-offs will culminate in the crowning of the winner and the runner-up on Sunday, 19 June, at the Dr Molemela Stadium.

Clubs put into groups

  • Group A: Orbit College (North-West), Steenberg United (Western Cape), Kings United (KwaZulu-Natal), Tornado (Eastern Cape) and Apollo X1 (Mpumalanga).
  • Group B: Manco Milan (Free State), JDR Stars (Gauteng), Morester Jeug (Northern Cape) and Magezi (Limpopo).

Two will be promoted

Only two teams, those finishing at the top in Group A and Group B, will be promoted to the NFD and they will replace the relegated erstwhile South African football giants, Moroka Swallows from Gauteng, and African Warriors from Qwaqwa in the Free State.

The overall winner will walk into the NFD with R1 million in prize money, while the runner-up will pocket R500 000, along with promotion.
