Merit for female official echoes male resolve

2017-01-25 06:01

Incumbent president of the South African Football Association (Safa) in the Mangaung Region, Shuping Seboko, has paid homage to his predecessors, Steve Lebeko and Obakeng Molatedi, for a job well done in enabling women participation in football.

He spoke at the presentation of a Fifa badge to dynamic female assistant referee Maneo Tau (25) at an occasion recently held in Bloemfontein.

Seboko credited the two men locally well-known in football administration, who have led the federation in the southern Free State.

“Seeing women referees climbing the ladder, is something which began during the tenure of my predecessors, Lebeko and Molatedi,” said Seboko.

“They laid the foundation to enable women to participate actively in football. They started off by encouraging women to register teams, and that necessitated women to also become involved in administration and officiating.

“Maneo’s achievement (receiving a Fifa badge) is a worthy celebration to share with my predecessors,” said Seboko.

Affectionately known as Tiger, the former Bloemfontein Celtic coach replaced Lebeko in the middle of 2004, while the latter took over from Molatedi in 1998.

“Involving more women and producing capable officials are a complement achievement of Lebeko’s administration,” said Seboko.
