In an effort to encourage female employees to participate in voluntary activities, the Kolomela mine’s Wo-men-in-Mining (WIM) committee participated in the Go Turquoise for the elderly initiative on Wednesday, 12 July.

The committee visited the three Age in Action centres, namely those in Boichoko, Newtown and Postdene in Postmasburg.

The Age in Action centres in the community are for the local senior citizens and this is where they come together and interact through arts and crafts.

“Apart from creating awareness of the need of the elderly in our community, we want to encourage female employees to participate in volunteer activities as one of WIM’s objectives,” said Karin van Huyssteen, Kolomela mine’s WIM custodian and wellness advisor.
