MORE than 800 gr. 1 learners from 9 schools in the Tsantsabane Municipal Area benefitted from a donation of school bags with pencil cases, by Kumba Iron Ore, a business unit of Anglo American in January this year.

According to the statement from Nikki Wetzlar of Anglo American, the donation was a demonstration of its commitment to improve the educational experience for children in the communities in which it operates.

“This donation forms part of Kumba’s Kolomela Mine’s annual Back to School campaign aimed at encouraging learners to remain focused on their studies in order to better their future,” the statement reads.

She further added that Kumba had been donating school material in communities for many years and had given young hopefuls the opportunity to enjoy their learning journey.

George Benjamin, manager: Public Affairs at Kolomela, expressed the company’s pride in seeing that local learners are well equipped with tools that would assist them in the first year of their schooling career.

“Education remains the pillar of development in our society and at Kolomela we are pleased to continue investing in this,” he said during the handover.

In addition to significant investments made by the Kolomela Mine in its host communities, often in collaboration with government and civil society organisations, the mine promised to continue doing so through social interventions.

Their aim is to improve the quality of life of people living in the communities.
