The trial of Donald Matsie (35) and Moshodi Moshodi (47) regarding the murder of Matshidiso Jeanette Lisenyane (33) is set to be heard from 11 to 13 July.

It will be heard in the Ladybrand Magistrate’s Court.

The two men are accused of murdering Lisenyane in August last year.

Matsie was granted R10 000 bail, while Moshodi was granted bail of R1 000.

The two friends face charges of the negligent use of a firearm and murder.

The state instituted the charge of the negligent use of a firearm against Moshodi, who is employed as a security manager at the Setsoto Municipality.

The first accused, Matsie, held the influential position of chief financial officer at the Mantsopa Local Municipality. He reportedly had a love affair with Lisenyane, who had been employed in the human resources division of the same municipality.

The police findings revealed that Lisenyane had been shot in the head. She was reportedly in the company of the two suspects on the day she was killed in a flat in Ladybrand, a town east of Bloemfontein.

Lisenyane’s murder has been plagued by some complications.

These include the gun involved in the murder and the question of who it belongs to, as well as what happened on the day of her murder.

Capt. Phumelelo Dhlamini, police spokesperson, said in a police statement that the suspects, Moshodi and Matsie, alleged the two of them had been playing with the firearm when it “accidentally” discharged and shot the victim in the head, close to her right ear.

Lisenyane reportedly died on the scene.

It was discovered that the firearm belonged to the Setsoto Municipality.

The state had been probing Moshodi to find out why the firearm was still in his possession when he was off-duty.
