SPEAKING to Tsepo Kgatlhane, you quickly discover that he is not an introvert. The first thing you are introduced to is his big eyes X and when he speaks, he does so eloquently.

Kgatlhane, from Wrenchville (close to Kuruman), is a change agent, former radio personality, voiceover artist, Youth Citizen Action Programme (YCAP) support team member, life orientation teacher at the Wrenchville High School, professional MC for events, philanthropist and motivational speaker. His talents are endless. He has been a socially active member of the community for over half a decade. He is also a strong advocate for positive social change in multiple issues.

During 2013 and 2014 he was nominated for the Northern Cape Citizen of the Year award.

What was your biggest highlight in 2015?

“I think meeting people through my work with the Empowervate YCAP have been some of my biggest highlights.

“I met the Constitutional Court Judge, Justice Edward Cameron. Hearing him say that he admires me and the work I do for the community, was very humbling for me.”

Who or what inpires you?

“The learners that I have helped to discover their own potential.”

What were some of the lessons that you learned during 2015?

“To live by my own principles. I learned that I should never allow other people to decide for me what is right and what is wrong. I now determine my own principles and values and, through this, I determine my own life and how far in life I will go.”

What advice do you have for young people?

“They should surround themselves with people who share their principles and who respect their values, for in them they will find that their joy is doubled and their sorrow is shared.”

What are your future plans?

“To launch my founda-tion, Agang Tshepo. I want to venture into the media industry as I am yearning for a bigger platform to drive change, inspire individuals with what I do and glorify God.”

Tell us more about your foundation?

“In Setswana the name, Agang Tshepo, stands for building trust and perfectly encapsulates the foundation’s primary initiative. Agang Tshepo aims to provide these disadvantaged, high-potential youths with the belief that they can realise their dreams.

“Negative socio-economic pressures would likely have eroded their trust in their potential. The foundation will provide for their self-actualisation with rewards and recognitions, and ultimately seek to connect the corporate social responsibility initiatives of those who can provide opportunities to the socio-economic needs of youth in the area.”

What are you most thankful for?

“I am thankful that at the age of 27, I know what my purpose is and that it has direction.

“I wake up everyday with a strong sense of purpose and I strive to fulfill it. There are not many young people out there who live life with a strong sense of purpose. They just live. My purpose is to be the change that I want to see in the world.”

What quote do you live by?

If what you did yesterday still looks big to you, you have not done much today.

What do you want to be remembered for?

“I want to be known and remembered as someone who did everything that he wanted, brought some happiness and left this world a little better place just because I was here. The hearts that I have touched will be the proof that I will leave as someone who made a difference.”
