SIDWELL GUDUKA has been appointed as the new editor of Express.

The 36-year-old assumed duties for his newest role last month, replacing Jabulani Dlamini who held the same position for four years.

Guduka, has more than 11 years of journalism experience gained at titles such as Daily Sun, Sunday Sun, Kick Off and Bona.

The Senekal-born joined Express as a freelance writer in March 2008 and he was offered a permanent position seven months later.

Over the past few years, Guduka has been working as sports editor and social media manager for the newspaper.

“I’m humbled and honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility of editing the biggest newspaper in Central South Africa.

“I’m also really excited about this new challenge,” said Guduka.

“ I look forward to engage with our readers who continue to make Express a brand that enriches the lives of the Free Staters,” he added.

Thabo Manyoni, the executive mayor of the Mangaung Metropo-litan Municipality, was among the first people to congratulate Guduka on his new role.

“Let me, on behalf of the city, take the opportunity to congratulate another big milestone achieved by one of our young, dedicated hardworking journalists, Sidwell Guduka, on his appointment as editor of one of the most popular newspapers, Express,” Manyoni wrote on his Facebook page.

“It is a well-deserved appointment and we are confident that through your hard work you will take this paper to even greater heights.

“We, at the same time, wish to thank his predecessor, Jabulani Dlamini, for the leadership he provided in maintaining and keeping the good track record of the paper.

“In you we trust and believe that you will continue to revolutionalise media for a total transformation.

“Congratulations and all the best,’’ he added.

Igwe Mpholo responded to the mayor’s post: “I cannot forget the first time I came to Express’s offices and met Sidwell Guduka.

“What a warm welcome and he listened to my story and published it. He united me and my son and I am forever grateful. May God enlarge your territory, Mr Guduka.”

Nombuyiselo Connie Non-dwangu, said: “Congrats Sid. I guess I was too quick. I predicted this when Andy (Galloway) left. I am so happy for you bro. Good luck.”
