IT has been brought to our attention that the article on p. 6 of last week’s edition of Express Northern Cape, New board for RTS FM, is incorrect.

This follows the community gathering at the Galeshewe Social Centre to elect a new board after a decision was made on Saturday, 28 November 2015, to have an elective annual general meeting (AGM).

The community complained of irregularities at the station and that there were no records of a proper audit for the past five years.

A decision was taken that the interim committee will look into amending the constitution, seeing that there is a clause which restricts nominations.

Two clauses stated that only registered entities may nominate board members and that no nominations will be allowed from the floor.

During deliberations in the community meeting of Saturday, 23 January 2016, it was established that correspondence has been going on between the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) and Garth Dammerel, the RTS FM station manager, which indicated that Icasa will not recognise the outcome of the meeting of Saturday, 23 January 2016.

Although the chairperson of the day, Lebogang Marekwa, had requested Dammerel to furnish him with minutes of the meeting of 28 November 2015, Damerrel is reported not to have delivered it.

The community decided not to go ahead with the election of board members for RTS FM. Instead, the community agreed to rather nominate eight names that will be presented to Icasa during the recognised AGM of 19 March 2016. A letter is expected to be written to the remaining members of the RTS FM board expressing the community’s dissatisfaction regarding the clauses that restrict nominations of candidates for the board.
