The police officer who was shot by three unknown armed suspects has died after failing to recover from the severe injuries he sustained.

Const. Jongindaba Mtiyane died on Wednesday (22/02) in Bloemfontein.

He was shot by one of three unidentified men while on duty with his colleague at the Sonskyn satellite police station in Bloemspruit, Bloemfontein. The other officer escaped unharmed.

The assailants fled the scene using a police vehicle.

Mtiyane’s funeral will be held in his hometown of Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape on Saturday (04/03).

Thandi Mbambo, Free State police spokesperson, said the attackers are still being traced. One of the suspects was reported shot during the crossfire at the satellite police station.
