One week to enter

THE deadline for entries for the 2016 Kudu Awards, organized by the South African National Parks (SANParks), in partnership with First National Bank (FNB) and Total South Africa, has been extended to 23 September.

William Mabasa, acting head of communications for SANParks, says through the Kudu Awards SANParks honours and celebrates individuals and institutions which will go to any length to conserve and protect our natural environment, as well as the associated cultural and heritage assets, for future generations.

The Kudu Awards is an initiative by SANParks that aims to recognise external stakeholders for their contributions and efforts in making it the custodian of choice for the national parks system in South Africa.

“The Kudu Awards are becoming one of the best conservation awards programmes in the country, which a lot of companies, individuals, as well as community groups, enter to showcase their work around the environment and conservation of natural resources,” says Mabasa.

He says entering holds real tangible benefits.

“In addition to receiving a thorough summary of all comments by judges, whether positive or negative, finalists and winners receive a financial reward. Furthermore, winners also receive widespread media exposure, which gives them a definite competitive edge over their peers, particularly around their passion for national parks.

“It is indeed an honour to be recognised as the best in the conservation of our biodiversity and this is an opportunity for anyone prove him or herself as such.”

The awards were made in eight different categories:

  • Corporate Contribution to Conservation;
  • Environmental Media Contribution to Conservation;
  • Community Contribution to Conservation;
  • Environmental Education or Capacity Building;
  • Individual Contribution to Conservation;
  • Professional Stakeholders;
  • Associated Partners; and
  • the Website Community Choice award.

Entry forms can be obtained from www.sanparks.org/about/events/kudu_awards/ or for more information call Christinah Chauke on 012-426-5020 or send email to christinah.chauke@sanparks.org.

The award winners will be announced at a function in Gauteng in November.
