STUDENTS who want to get started on their Advanced Certificate in Teaching (ACT) in 2016 at the University of the Free State (UFS) have one more opportunity to do so.

The starting date for applications is 12 October, and applications will be accepted until 24 October.

“In order to qualify for enrolment in the Advanced Certificate in Teaching (ACT), there are some prerequisites,” says Prof. Daniella Coetzee-Manning of the UFS South Campus.

“Firstly, a prospective student has to be employed as a teacher. The prospective student must have access to a classroom, as practical assignments form part of the programme.

“Secondly, the programme is for teachers who are already qualified.”

Qualifications can include:

  • a three-year education (teaching) diploma;
  • a National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE);
  • a degree in education; or
  • any degree, or a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

“The UFS is well prepared to assist teachers in becoming increasingly effective in their work in South African schools.

“Through continuous projects and long-term commitments to community schools, the UFS understands and continues to address the unique needs of South African teachers through its new online ACT programme.”

Some of these continuous commitments are the School Change Project and the widelyacclaimed Internet Broadcast Project (IBP).
