A BEAUTY pageant in which big is equally beautiful is set to take Bloemfontein by storm. Curvy contestants will showcase their plus-sized figures during the final of Mrs Plus Size is Me on 6 August.

The event will coincide with Women’s Month celebrations, which culminates in the main festivities on 9 August.

A total of 13 finalists will compete for the Mrs Plus Size is Me Free State crown. The pageant is for married women between the ages of 20 and 50 who reside in the Free State.

For the contestants, the event offers more than just a title. It is meant to boost the confidence of plus-sized women, encouraging them to embrace and love their bodies, as well as be proud of their beauty.

The pageant also offers contestants a chance to embrace contributing to charity, as they will be fundraising for the Cansa Katleho Care Home in Bloemfontein. The centre offers a home away from home for scores of cancer survivors receiving treatment.

The contestants will use the opportunity to support the 67 Minutes for Mandela Campaign by running their project on 16 Julystet, nie 18 .

A first for Bloemfontein, and in the Free State, the Mrs Plus Size is Me pageant is organised by the Chief Leeuw Foundation.

The winner of the pageant will act as an ambassador for the foundation.

“The event strives to encourage plus-sized women to be proud of their beauty and bodies, as well as to have society appreciate them. We are appealing for support from the public, including corporate businesses,” says Chief Leeuw.

Tickets are available at R100.
