THE year 2015 has been marked as the most challenging year for the mining industry due to the ongoing drop in commodity prices. Due to the deteriorating economical environment various mines started with retrenchement of their workforce and also to reduce its assets just to keep afloat.

However, PMG Mining just outside Postmasburg, announced the planned expansion of their mining operations in 2016 at its year-end function on Friday, 18 December 2015.

PMG Mining ended off 2015 on a positive note by giving recognition to its employees and management at a red carpet event.

Also in attendance were all shareholders and members of the Tsantsabane Municipality.

“Because of your efforts we can look back on various achievements since the starting of our mining operations,” was the message of PMG Mine manager, Kwaw Kabaah.

“You as our employees are our most valuable assets and together we can achieve more by expanding our operation,” added the keynote speaker and CEO, Lin van der Westhuizen.

“Looking back on a productive year for PMG Mining we as shareholders and investors want to thank the Department of Mineral Resources for their imput and support to overcome various obstacles and challenges.”

Production manager Jionxiong Ma also highlighted how they looked forward to being marked as mining partner in the Northern Cape through the expansion of their mining operations.

Mayor of the Tsantsabane Municipality, Elroy Phete, thanked PMG Mining for their support to the local municipality and pledged his support to PMG Mining in order to grow stronger and bigger “so that at the end of the day we can look after our own people in the form of job creation and business opportunities in the broader Tsantsabane.”

HR manager, James van den Heever, added by saying: “PMG Mining truly lives up to its social responsibility and we are proud to be associated with our mining communities in which we operate and with our mining expansion we want to mark ourselves as developing partner in Postmasburg and surrounding communities.”
