Police donate needed nappies

2016-11-16 06:00

Police officers and personnel of the Mangaung and Batho police clusters in Bloemfontein have thrown their full weight behind the Nappy Run Project.

They have donated nappies to the Tswellang Special School in Phaha-meng, Bloemfontein.

The nappies were handed over to the school on Thursday (10/11), bringing a smile to faces of children and staff.

The nappy initiative is the brain child of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA).

The project aims at raising awareness about the challenge of children with disabilities needing nappies and to collect the much-needed nappies for them.

“The generous donations from police members ensured that the school gets an amount of nappies required to care for learners,” said Sgt. Ikobeng Hlubi, spokesperson of the Mangaung police cluster.

She said through the gesture, they were respon-ding to the challenge of the school not having sufficient nappies for learners.

According to Verna Vorster, deputy principal at Tswellang, funding received for the nappies could cover a quarter of the nappies they need to take care of the learners.

“Nappies are one of the most important daily essentials used at the school,” said Vorster.

She said the donation was much needed to give learners dignity.

Hlubi said members volunteered to collect a quantity of nappies to supplement what the school had.

“Showing compassion, members interacted with learners,” she said.

She said this was also done in the spirit of embracing learners of Tswellang.
