Det. Sgt. Tebogo Seako was praised for a job well done after Mntyengizane Bulellani Christopher (28) was sentenced in the De Aar regional court to life imprisonment for the rape of a 23-year-old woman on 6 April 2014.

The woman was on her way home from a tavern during the early hours of the morning when she was grabbed by an unknown assailant and dragged into an abandoned building at the railway station in De Aar.

According to Lt. Sergio Kock, the accused then beat the victim with his open hands and fists before he raped her, after which he fled the scene. He was arrested a week later in De Aar and appeared in court, where he was later released on R300 bail. After resumption of the case, he was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The De Aar SAPS Cluster Commander, Brig. Nomahlubi Sofika, has lauded Det.Sgt Tebogo Seako from the De Aar Cluster’s Child Protection and Family Offences unit for a job well done.

“It is with pride that we see our members working extremely hard to take criminals off our streets.

“The convictions result in justice for the victims concerned and the community feel safer when the perpetrators are incarcerated.

“It also sends out a strong message that when you do crime, you will do the time, especially as we are approaching the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children campaign,” said Sofika.
