Pregnancy session held

A special and free educational session focusing on pregnancy will be presented as part of Pregnancy Awareness Month by the Bloemfontein Mediclinic on 16 February.

The event will be held at Leopards & Lace in Bloemfontein, starting at 18:00.

The educational session aims to support and assist parents in making important decisions, from breastfeeding to birthing options. Parents will have access to all the guidance they need, enlightening mothers and fathers.

An exhibition will be held at the Loch Logan Waterfront from 13 to 17 February.

Parents will be enlightened about various aspects such as how to stay healthy during pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and the importance of breastfeeding. Issues that will be discussed include the following:

  • the opportunity to exclude and manage existing medical conditions which can be aggravated by the pregnancy, such as hypertension, diabetes, infections and anaemia;) free HIV testing and voluntary counselling (VCT);) early recognition of danger signs in pregnancy and after delivery;) birth preparedness and complication readiness;) self-care, including nutrition and high standards of hygiene; and) information on the role of the father, the male partner and the family.
