Aspiring songwriters and artists looking for a break in music have a chance to start their road to fame.

This can be done by entering a new competition called All the way from Bloem/Al die pad van Bloem.

Entries officially open today (06/09) and coincides with the announcement. The closing date for entries is 31 January next year.

This competition offers budding artists and songwriters of different genres within the greater Bloemfontein a platform to expose their talent.

Express and sister publication Bloemnews are the official print media sponsors.

The initiative is jointly organised by local singer Jacobus Silwer and his spouse, Lizamé Coetzee. Its main objective is to unearth and help nurture abundance in music.

“Bloemfontein is bursting at the seams with talent and this needs to be acknowledged. However, funding and knowledge remain the challenge for many to realise the dream of becoming accomplished artists.

“We would like to afford artists and songwriters an opportunity to create a special product, a unique product all the way from Bloem for the rest of South Africa,” says Silwer.

Silwer has produced his first album as independent artist.

“We have learned quite a lot and would like to share our experience with songwriters and singers who are aspiring to make their mark, but do not know where to start. It is very costly to produce and record your own album. It will be immensely more cost effective if we do it together.”

The competition will culminate in the recording of various artists’ songs as part of an album. Songwriters and artists can submit work in different genres.

Those who will be included in All the way from Bloem/Al die pad van Bloem may have the opportunity to have access to the following:

  • a workshop where, among others, SAMRO, RISA and Capasso will be explained;
  • contact with a distributor, who may assist you in having your music played on radio stations and other digital platforms;
  • contact with a publisher, who may assist you with all the administration;
  • the opportunity to win the production of a music video; and
  • a possible spot in the show and CD launch.

The above-mentioned are subject to terms, conditions and availability of venues and services from publishers and distributors.

A concert at which the best entries will be staged is being planned after adjudication of entries. In addition, one of the entrants whose songs will be recorded on the CD stands a chance to win the production of a video.

A panel of knowledgeable adjudicators, led by Ella Kotze, Jacobus Silwer, Angelo Mockie, Thabo Pitse and Caroline Grace, will judge every entry with the best songs recorded on the CD of various artists.

More information about the music competition and entry forms are available on the Facebook page.

Entrants can also call Coetzee or Silwer on 071-116-4425.
