Prosecutor charged

2016-12-07 06:03

A state prosecutor at the Parys Magistrate’s Court is in hot water after a bizarre alleged bribery incident in which a suspect facing a charge of theft blew the whistle.

The prosecutor, Patrick Ncango (40), is set to reappear in the same court today (07/12) facing a charge of corruption, after appearing in court on Friday (02/12) following his arrest by the Hawks.

Capt. S’fiso Nyakane, Hawks spokesperson, says Ncango allegedly broke the law by demanding a R1 500 bribe from a suspect facing theft so that he (Ncango) can destroy the docket containing evidence against the theft suspect, thereby having the case withdrawn.

The theft suspect blew the whistle, leading to Ncango’s arrest.

“An amount of R1 000 was found in his possession,” says Nyakane.

He says the bail application was turned down on his first appearance, remaining in custody. He is expected to apply for bail again.
