BOHLOKONG. Z Lebohang Motloung (19), the current Miss Dihlabeng, was born and raised in Bethlehem.

She comes from a small, religious family consisting of both parents and an elder sister. She matriculated in 2014 at the New Horizon College in Harrismith and is currently studying for a BEd-degree at the University of the Free State (UFS) in Bloemfontein.

“I am the last-born at home and it feels good,” says the vivacious queen of Dihlabeng.

She last participated in a beauty pageant when she was in high school, doing gr. 10.

She unfortunately fractured her ankle and was rushed to the hospital and could not take part in the questioning round.

“However, when I came back, I was announced as Miss Personality,” giggles the soft-spoken Lebohang, who is affectionately known as “Lebo”.

She says her family supports her a lot, not only in beauty pageants, but in everything she does.

“I’m very grateful for the support they have shown me. Without them I would not be where I am now,” she declares.

She says she will always cherish the moment she was crowned Miss Dihlabeng.

Lebohang experienced many emotions at once, but one that stood out the most, was happiness.

“I was overwhelmed, tears rolling down my cheeks . . . I was smiling and shaking . . .” she recalls.

“It was my first time to be crowned a queen. I never felt like that before, but all in all I was very happy,” she says.

Miss Dihlabeng wants to help primary school children to get after-school care because many parents do not have time to assist them with homework and their general studies. That is also why she is joining the teaching fraternity.

Regarding her advice to the youth, she said: “My advice to the youth in general is to abstain from sex. Being a teenager is not about sleeping around with everyone the first chance you get. Spend more time with family. Do not do everything because the other kids are doing it. Do things that you want to do. Live your life the way you want to. Do not go through your teenage years following the ‘in’ crowd because of fear of being rejected.

“These are the years when we are supposed to have as much fun as possible and realise who we are, what we want to be. How are you supposed to accomplish that while acting like someone else?

“Do not ever give in to peer pressure. It is a terrible thing. Whether it is for friends, drugs or sex Z peer pressure is bad and can be difficult to resist. However, I say to you: Do not do anything you would be afraid to admit to your parents,” she adds.

On what her favourite dish is, the mesmerising queen gives this question some thought and smiles: “My favourite dish is pap and pork with gravy, alongside a salad. I’ve prepared this dish with my mother and she loves pork with all her heart. Every time I do it for myself it just reminds me of her.”

The queen of Dihlabeng thanks both the sponsors and organisers for creating this platform for young females to gauge their potential and purpose in life. She says the prizes were fantastic and she wishes for bigger and more in the next edition. She concludes by saying that “beauty with a purpose” means the beauty of a woman is not in her facial appearance.

True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives and passion that she shows.

There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.
