The cluster commander of Pixley ka Seme, Brig. Nomahlubi Sofika, has welcomed the ten-year sentence handed to Odwa Jonas (27) by the De Aar Regional Court for rape and robbery.

On Tueday, 15 August, Jonas was found guilty of raping and robbing a 46 year old woman.

The court sentenced him to ten years’ imprisonment for rape and five years for robbery.

The incident dates back to 3 August 2014 at about 20:00, when the victim bumped into Jonas while on her way home.

According to Lt. Col Dimakatso Mooi, Jonas forced the victim to a nearby yard, all the while threatening her with a knife, before raping her.

“Someone came out of the house as the victim screamed and Jonas fled with the victim’s cell phone, identity document and Sassa card,” said Mooi.
