THE newly-crowned Miss Heritage Free State, Reabetswe Mabine (22), has her eye on the pageant’s ultimate titles: Miss Heritage South Africa and Miss Heritage World.

She was crowned as the Free State winner at the final, held recently in Welkom, which coincided with Women’s Month.

By virtue of being crowned the winner, Reabetswe has earned a slot in the Miss Heritage South Africa final, scheduled for 22 September at Carnival City, Johannesburg.

She will compete against eight other provincial winners for the South African title, with the winner going to the Miss Heritage World final, scheduled for December.

The Bloemfontein-based contestant carries on her shoulders the hopes and aspirations of the Free State as the first-ever winner at the pageant’s provincial level.

She was one of the top-six finalists vying for the provincial title. The contestants were from Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, Sasolburg and Virginia.

At the intimate final of the Free State, Reabetswe stood out from the rest and was chosen as the winner, beating Carol Nthabeleng and Sandisiwe Magwa, who received the title of first princess and second princess respectively.

Reabetswe has received a year’s contract with ACE models and the support of the brand.

“Firstly, I would like to thank Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour, and then the Miss Heritage Free State organiser for the amazing opportunity, the judges and my family and friends for all the support,” said Reabetswe.

“I realised after the crowning that history had been made. During my reign, I will strive to set the standard high as the first-ever queen of Miss Heritage Free State.”

Reabetswe is a second-year student at the University of the Free State (UFS), studying BA Media Studies with specialisation in Corporate and Marketing Communications. She is also a part-time intern at the Manguang Metro Municipality.

Reabetswe is passionate about radio and was voted the youngest female radio personality at the campus radio station Kovsie FM in 2013. She is also in the limelight as television presenter at Kovsie TV.

Lerato Tshabangu, the pageant’s provincial director, believes the finalists have not only formed a strong bond of friendship, but have also been given an opportunity to showcase their talent.
