This year’s Mandela Day Sandwich Run proved to be a huge success for the Flamingo Casino.

In 2016, 4 121 sandwiches were made in an hour.

This year’s run saw a whopping 6 189 sandwiches made, beating last year’s number.

The success of the event was thanks to caring companies and individuals who heeded the call to rally their troops and bring along sandwich goodies and loads of good cheer for this year’s sandwich run on Tuesday, 18 July.

Companies will have free reign to brand and accessorise their sandwich-making stalls and compete against other like-minded businesses to make the most sandwiches.

All the sandwiches made on the run were distributed among Kimberley’s needy communities of Roodepan and Greenpoint in partnership with the Hunger and Thirst Foundation.

The challenge was to have fun while making as many sandwiches as possible in an hour.

The run also coincided with the day in an effort for stakeholders to be part of a spirited community event and make a difference in someone’s life.

“All it takes is at least five sets of willing hands, some sandwich ingredients and an hour of your time.

“This fun-filled event has at its heart the goal to fill some empty stomachs and spread some smiles,” says Lameez Suliman, the PR and Promotions Manager at Flamingo Casino.

Sulliman continued to urge members of the community and stakeholders to start planning for the next sandwich run.

“I am pleased to confirm that it was a great success and we intend to keep building this event.”

In participation was representation from Swiftprint, Legal Wise, the Electoral Commission of South Africa, De Beers, Mediclinic, Run Walk for Life, AIDA, ER24, Scorp Security, the South African Police Services, YUU Clean and the Northern Cape Cricket Union.
