THE 2015 matric class of the Segopotso Secondary School in Laxey, in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, was congratulated by the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) Developmental Trust for achieving a 100% pass rate in their final examination.

During the annual district awards ceremony held in Laxey on Friday (05/02), it was highlighted how the pass rate of 100% is a massive improvement from 53,8% in 2013.

The pass rate was tremendously helped by R30 000 that was set aside by the Trust in 2015 towards weekend classes, which were well attended by the learners. The CEO of the JTG Developmental Trust, Tumelo Mpolokeng, was happy to acknowledge the Trust’s support towards the pass rate.

“We as the Trust heeded the call of government of adopting a school campaign, and in 2015, we came to the school to identify issues and challenges that prohibited the school from performing.

“It came as no surprise when we got the news that the school achieved 100%. We knew that we gave sufficient support in partnership with the Department of Education for the school to achieve.

“Today we are celebrating a bunch of winners,” he said.

The school principal, Kealeboga Moeng, could not contain her excitement. “Had it not been for the Trust, we wouldn’t have achieved the 100% pass rate. Through their constant support and prayers, we did it. I am also thankful for the support I received from my peer-educators and the district office.”

The Segopotso Secondary School received four awards during the ceremony – for the most improved school in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality and for the most improved school, the top performing school and the top school in the JTG district.
