The funeral service of the late Dr Rantlai Petrus Molemela was a clear case of business unusual.

Service delivery, as in fixing potholes and repainting road markings, was finally realised on the eve of the funeral of the iconic Molemela. Workers of the Mangaung Metro were seen repainting and fixing potholes in roads leading to the residence of the late Bloemfontein Celtic owner. Even a pothole in front of Molemela’s gate – which was a constant reminder of nonservice delivery, was fixed and road markings repainted.

Over two days, municipal workers were visible, working to keep Modimogale, Chief Moroka and Moshoeshoe Road, leading to the posh residence in Rocklands where the late Molemela lived, spick-and-span.

Workers also fixed potholes and repainted road markings around the Dr R.P. Molemela Stadium, where the funeral was held yesterday.

This was done in great expectation of a number of dignitaries who attended the funeral service. Many people, young and old, brightened the city wearing colourful ever-green and white shirts, trousers and skirts, paying tribute to Molemela.

The Bloemfontein Celtic owner was renowned for wearing colourful attire that included his sombrero hat.
