DESPITE the malfunctioning air conditioning in the internationally standardised Mitah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley, gospel lovers braved the heat to enjoy performances by their favourite artists, such as the Jaziel Brothers, Joyous Celebration, Dineo Ramailane and the Roman Catholic Church’s youth choir on Saturday, 28 November.

The 2015 Kim-Fest offered fresh performances with high energy levels as fans were on their feet throughout all performances, while singing along.

Although some of the fans that Express Northern Cape spoke to were left a bit disappointed by the non-appearance of Joyous Celebration’s Puleng March, they described the group’s performance as a sincerely wholehearted show.

Zikie Molusi, organiser of the festival and managing director of ZikMo Promotions, apologised for the non-functioning air conditioning and said that various attempts at bringing the matter to the attention of the centre managers had failed to bear results.

He responded to a media enquiry, which stated that continued efforts of getting the problem solved had only resulted in a response that ‘someone was working on it’.

Molusi promised that he had never been informed of the faulty air conditioning when he had made the booking.

“I felt bad seeing the artists sweating heavily during their performances on stage,” Molusi said.

Molusi sang the praises of the festival and said it had been one of the best shows held so far. It compared favourably to the one in 2014 that was held at the GWK Stadium.

According to him, the show is a message to government that the challenges of alcohol and substance abuse in the community can be addressed through programmes like these.

Regarding the performances of the Joyous Celebration members, Molusi clarified that the promoters did not really have a say with regard to which artists would perform.

“Honestly speaking, we are satisfied with the performances, especially because we saw that the audience loved them and the songs they performed on stage.

“They gave us, the Northern Cape, their best performance, as they were on stage for almost five hours without taking a break,” Molusi added.

Jabu Hlongwane, one of the founding members of Joyous Celebration, applauded the local fans and said they would always enjoy coming to the Northern Cape due to the love that they had received in the province over the past four years.

Molusi suggested government and the municipality should partner in presenting the show in order for it to grow bigger and better in the future.

“I am also looking at taking Joyous Celebration to other districts of the Northern Cape.
