Show still has more to offer

ATTENDANCE at the Bloem Show is expected to increase magnificently with the events in the final week.

The jazz show musical extravaganza on Saturday (07/05) is yet another main attraction. The jazz event concludes the 11-day festival.

Elmarie Prinsloo, chief executive of Bloem Show, said initial stats showed approximately 64 000 people had attended the show over the first six days (27 April to 2 May).

She attributed this to the decision not to increase the price of tickets, but to keep it the same as for the 2015 edition. Prinsloo said this decision was based on the current state of the economy.

“The decision to keep the admission the same as in 2015 is to accommodate as many people as possible in a time that all costs have increased tremendously since 2015,” said Prinsloo.

“We are very realistic about the effect of the economy on all sectors of business. In this regard, we expect a decrease in attendance overall.”

On the question of whether or not this year’s event had lived up to expectations despite the hard-pressed economy, Prinsloo said: “In the current economic climate, we see each person attending the show as a blessing to us and all the exhibitors.”

Prinsloo said the show still had a lot to offer this week.

“Some of the remaining highlights for the rest of the show are the national and World Dorper Sheep Championships and the oval-track racing on Friday (06/05).”

According to Prinsloo, popular attractions in the first week included the South African Saddle Horse Championship, the fun fair, bag jumping and extreme stunts.
