  • THE Galeshewe-based Tshwaragano All Stars u.15 team scooped gold medals and a trophy at the Old Mutual tournament that was hosted by the in Kimberley. This was the school’s top achievement for the year.

The same team was awarded with bronze medals for being in the third position in the Local Football Association (LFA) league playoffs.

Another highlight for the school was the u.11 team winning gold medals and a trophy in the division’s LFA playoffs.

These two divisions were acknowledged for their hard work on Saturday (14/11) when the team hosted its 2015 award ceremony at the Mayibuye Cultural Centre.

Players were awarded in different catogories, such as most promising player, most improved player and player of the season.

The awards were handed over in all the divisions, ranging from u.9 to the u.19 players.

Ululation was the order of the day and happiness prevailed during the ceremony.

Tears of joy were shed as each parent abided by the rule of accompanying his or her son to go and fetch his hard-earned trophy at the podium.

The event saw the youngest coach, who is also a player of the u.11 team, Tlotlo Merahe, share his experience as a player-coach with the audience.

According to Tlotlo, the u.11 team is, to him, the most important team.

He emphasised how he had to develop a thick skin due to his choices of selecting the most deserving players on the field.

“That was because the players accuse me of favouritism, which I will never do,” promised Tlotlo.

He continued to explain to his peers how he wants all of them to prosper and show growth “just like I did.”

According to Tlotlo, he grew up in the Tshwaragano All Stars soccer team after joining it at the age of 6 years.

“Now I am 12 years old and other teams want to snatch me.

“My managing director said I am not going anywhere,” he revealed to the applauding audience.

One of the parents, Nomfundo Samela, asked the parents to encourage their children not only through financial contributions, but by attending the soccer matches as well.

She was supported in her plea by Rodger Semeri, managing director of the team, who added that there is always a special skill that shows itself when a young player plays in front of his parents. According to the head coach, Nkululeko Sayeni, the team has grown from 78 to 93 players this season.

“The u.11 team has achieved the number one spot in the LFA league and the u.13 team has gained second place in the structural league. The u.19 team improved by moving from position six to position three increasing their goal tally from 13 to 44,” Sayeni said.
