Hoewel die droogte nog in die winterreënvalstreke woed, moet die somerreënvalstreke hulle staal vir reën wat vanjaar later as gewoonlik sal kom.

Cobus Olivier, navorser by die Suid-Afrikaanse Weerdiens (SAWD), sê dit is moeilik om die begin van die reënseisoen te voorspel.

“Dus dui dit daarop dat die somer- reënvalseisoen ’n bietjie later sal begin.”

Die winterreënvalstreke beweeg egter nou uit hul reënvalseisoen.

“Die droogte oor dié gebiede sal waarskynlik tot volgende jaar se winter duur,” sê hy.

Hoewel dit nog vir die winterreënvalstreke moontlik is om reën in die somer te kry, “verwag ons niks noemenswaardigs nie”.

Suid-Afrikaners het, volgens Olivier, twee verskillende droogtes die afgelope twee jaar

beleef – met die winterreënvalstreek wat dit tans steeds ervaar.
