PHUTHADITJHABA. – The South African Football Association’s (Safa) Maluti-a-Phofung Local Football Association has rewarded its teams and officials for outstanding performance displayed during the 2015-’16 season.

An award ceremony was held at the Charles Mopeli Stadium in Qwaqwa on Saturday (10/09) morning.

The titles awarded include player of the year, coach of the year and referee of the year, and the chairman’s award and many others were received.

According to Joseph Nchefu, chairperson of the local football association (LFA) the awards were aimed at motivating the team and players.

“We wanted to motivate the players more than anything. We want them to work harder, because if they do, we will be able to promote more teams at the association (to higher leagues),” said Nchefu.

He said they were overwhelmed that they had managed to host the award ceremony.

“We thank the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality and the sponsors for their support.”

Nchefu said they were not going to deny that they had experienced challenges throughout the season, but that those challenges had taught them something of going forward.

“The LFA is growing and the fact that we have promoted teams to the South African Breweries (SAB) League and the ABC Motsepe League is testimony of what we are saying.”

The Good Performers FC from Bluegumbosch in Qwaqwa was the big winner at the award ceremony, walking away with two trophies as winner of the KPD Maphalla Tournament and the Mamelodi Local Football Association (Malfa) Preseason Tournament.

Dumisane Radebe, captain of the Good Performers, said their main aim had been to win the league, but they finished third on the log table.

He said they had however learned from the past season and would make sure they collect maximum points this season as that would help them to realise their dreams.

“We have hard-working and committed players who want to play in the professional leagues.

“We know that one has to work hard to achieve that,” said Radebe.

“Our priority for now is to promote the team to the SAB League.”
