BETHLEHEM. – Tshepo Mothiba (22), Free State Stars striker, is facing charges of attempted murder.

Mothiba, who briefly appeared before the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Friday (02/09), has been released on bail of R3 000.

He will reappear before the same court on 29 September.

Mothiba stands accused of an attempted murder committed on 15 May in which a 21-year-old victim, Romario Miners of Baken Park near Bethlehem, was stabbed in the stomach with a sharp object.

Express Eastern Free State (EFS) has learnt that Miners spent about two weeks in the Dihlabeng Regional Hospital, where he was treated after the incident.

Apparently Mothiba, who just made one appearance in the Ea Lla Koto colours last season, was with teammates when the incident took place.

Cpt. Zweli Mohobeledi, police spokesperson, said they had received a complaint on 15 May.

He said a case had been registered and later on a warrant of arrest was granted.

“The suspect was arrested on 31 August and he was detained until he went to court,” said Mohobeledi.

“The incident happened next to one of the clubs in town. We are not sure what was used for the stabbing.”

Mothiba joined the Bethlehem-based outfit last season (2015-’16) in July from Baroka FC.
