State prosecutor caught in act

2017-05-17 06:01

A state prosecutor at the Parys Magistrate’s Court, Patrick Ncango, will be charged departmentally and criminally for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a theft suspect.

Capt. S’fiso Nyakane, Free State Hawks spokesperson, said the departmental hearing against Ncango is set to be from 29 to 31 May. He said the hearing would be followed by a court trial scheduled to start on 4 August.

The Hawks in the Free State caught the accused in December last year after a theft suspect had blown the whistle, informing the police that Ncango had allegedly demanded a bribe of R1 500 to destroy the docket containing evidence against the suspect.

Ncango was granted conditional bail of R5 000 during his first appearance.

He was also suspended from duty by the National Prosecuting Authority in the Free State.

The Hawks arrested Ncango at his workplace at the Parys Magistrate’s Court after discovering an amount of R1 000 in his possession.
