Support Engo and stand the chance of winning a car

2016-11-09 06:01

The For Our Children Project, a fundraising endeavour for Engo in which a brand-new vehicle can be won, is still running.

This offers the public more chances to enter the charity initiative, in which one person will win a Chevrolet Spark Campus by purchasing ticket for R20. The closing date is 25 November. Five finalists will be announced on 9 January 2017 with the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers. The final draw function will be on 20 January 2017.

The Free State child and youth-care centres are non-profit organisations that care for children who are removed from their homes because of a need for care and protection.

“Engo needs R1 933 per month, or R66,45 per day per child. This includes food, clothes, transport and medical and educational expenses, excluding the salaries of personnel,” said Nicolene du Toit, Engo director of marketing in the Free State.

More than 800 children up to the age of 18 are being cared for in the 34 child and youth-care centres across the Free State.

“It costs R32 per child per day just to feed the children. Engo only receives R14 from government. Every ticket which is sold for the For Our Children Project, feeds one child for one whole day.”

Du Toit said in the 2015-’16 financial year, a mere 26% of Engo’s total income had been subsidised by government.
