POLICE are searching for suspects who allegedly shot and killed a man in Thabong, Welkom.

According to Lt. Malebo Khosana the shooting happened in Streiting in Thabong, at about 04:00 on Friday, 8 January.

The deceased has been identified as Makanyane David Sello (49).

He lived a few metres away from the scene of the crime.

The police were called to the scene and on arrival they found the victim lying motionless on the ground, outside a white Toyota Corolla. He was certified dead on the scene.

“It is alleged that Makanyane was driving from his house to work when he was shot.

“According to witnesses, before he could drive far from his house his motor vehicle was shot at by an unknown number of men who were hiding on the street corner,” said Khosana.

“Several bullets hit him and he died on the scene. The suspects fled on foot after the shooting,” he explained.

Thabong police have opened a murder docket for investigation.

“We have made no arrests thus far and we request the public to come forth with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects,” said Khosana.

Anyone with information that may lead to an arrest should contact detective constable Bonisile Mvangeli on 057-910-2355 or 076-635-5451.
