TOP-SEEDED African swimmers will be propelling their efforts with the view to clinch the silver at stake in the African Swimming Confederation (Cana) Swimming Championship, which runs from 16 until 23 October in Bloemfontein.

It will see the continent’s finest swimmers, both in the pool and open water categories, in action.

This year’s is the 12th edition of Cana African Open Water Swimming Championship.

The competition will take place at the picturesque Maselspoort Resort outside the Free State capital.

Top swimmers lined up include the 2016 Rio Olympian Michelle Weber, Danie Marais, Carman Le Roux and Michael McGlynn. They will compete in different categories in this eight-day competition.

The open water swimming over 5 km will be the main attraction, with 24 contestants featured.

They will battle it out for the continental championship bragging rights.

The organisers are also hosting five further recreational events that will enable the Free State Open Water swimming fraternity to participate at a unique event in the province.

Matters get underway with 4 x 1 km events scheduled to start at 08:30, with the 400 m fun swim wrapping up the jam-packed competition.

Entry fees for the 1 km races are R100 and R75 for the 400 m.
