A SLEEPY Trompsburg is alive as the Neo Monyetsane Sports Tournament is currently taking place there.

This annual event, which kicked off on Sunday (13/12), celebrates its second year and it promises to be bigger and better this year.

The tournament involves 16 soccer teams and eight netball teams from towns across the Xhariep District Municipality.

Neo Monyetsane, brand owner, said things had been going according to plan since the official launch and opening of this tournament on Sunday.

“As compared to last year the turn-out has been extremely good this year. A lot of people are showing great interest and we are grateful for their support.

“We think this year’s tournament will be better than what we had last year,” said Monyetsane, who currently works for e.tv as news anchor.

“For security reasons, we have decided to charge people an entrance fee of R5. Every spectator will receive a water bottle, T-shirt, cap, tog bag and sunglasses,” he explained.

Monyetsane said the proceeds would be used to buy school uniforms for needy learners in the area.

“We appeal to people from Trompsburg and the surrounding area to support this noble cause. This tournament is for them. They must come in their numbers to have fun,” he pleaded.

Monyetsane said he was overwhelmed with the support they were receiving from the Xhariep District Municipality and the sponsors.

The winners in both categories will walk away with R15 000, while the runners-up and the sides finishing third will receive R5 000 and R3 000 respectively.

DJ Finzo of Lesedi FM and other top artists will be entertaining the crowd.

All matches will be played at the Caleb Motshabi Stadium in Trompsburg.

Meanwhile, Tlou Segolela of Platinum Stars will be hosting his annual Festive Soccer Tournament in Moletjie this weekend.

The fourth edition of the tournement will involve soccer and charity work, with 16 netball teams to be introduced for the first time.

The tournament is an eight-day soccer and netball event that will donate some of its proceeds to charity organisations.
