Victims and offenders meet

2017-01-25 06:01

The Department of Correctional Services in Kuruman is facilitating a victim-offender dialogue and mediati-on programme.

This is part of their restorative justice programme.

The programme aims to strengthen the rehabilitation and re-integration of victims by placing the victim at the centre of the intervention process.

According to Sibongile Zondi, facilitator of the programme, the objectives of the victim-offender dialogue and mediation is to provide a restorative conflict resolution process.

This process actively involves the victim and the offender in repairing the emotional and material harm caused by the crime.

It is also to provide an opportunity for a victim and offender to discuss the offence, to get answers, express feelings and gain a greater sense of closure.

The programme also aims to pro- vide an opportunity for the broad community to participate in the fight against crime through engagement with offenders and the empowerment of victims.

For more information on the programme, the department invites all interested to contact Zondi at 053-7120-880 or arrange for a meeting at the Community Corrections Offices at the corner of Stewards and Church Street.
