Vodacom searches for volunteers

2016-02-17 06:00

VODACOM has opened applications for its flagship volunteer programme, Vodacom Change the World.

The main focus is to provide skilled and experienced South Africans an opportunity to volunteer their time at a non-profit organisation (NPO) full time, for a year.

The NPO benefits from a skilled resource, which it would not have been able to afford, while the volunteer also grows and develops through this life-changing experience.

“Through the Vodacom Change the World programme, volunteers are afforded a unique opportunity to do something close to their heart, whilst imparting their much-needed skills and expertise. If you would like to do the same, apply today,” says Maya Makanjee, chief officer of corporate affairs at Vodacom.

The programme, in its sixth year, continues to go from strength to strength as it touches the lives of ordinary South Africans.

One of the participants for 2015, Kgabo Mmekwa, armed with a master’s degree in Developmental Studies, is following her passion, developing skills and giving hope to youth in Bronkhorstspruit.

“People want to make a difference, but they’re afraid of what they may need to give up,” says Mmekwa.

“I didn’t give anything up, I only gained. I am using my skills in Developmental Studies to help develop and upskill the youth in Bronkhorstspruit. I am training unemployed youth in entrepreneurship and small business management. This has changed my life.”

If you feel you have what it takes to change the world, then now is the time to apply to be one of the 2016-’17 volunteers.

You will need to approach an NPO and gain its support and agreement on your role, goals and proposed monthly salary, then apply online at www.vodacomctw.co.za.

Applications close on 20 March.
