Washer uses car for days

2017-05-10 06:02

The police warns vehicle owners against the habit of leaving it in the care of car wash attendants at car washes.

A male car washer recently disappeared with the vehicle of a 46-year-old woman who left it to be cleaned. The vehicle was later spotted in Bloemfontein.

Capt. Zweli Mohobeleli, police spokesperson, said the washer took the vehicle without the consent of the woman who left it at a car wash in Bethlehem.

“The washer allegedly disappeared with the vehicle for three days without the owner knowing where he or the vehicle was,” said Mohobeleli.

He said the man was arrested in Bloemfontein and appeared in court facing a charge of using a vehicle without an owner’s consent.

  • “Vehicle owners should not be too trusting and leave their vehicles at car washes. They should rather wait while their vehicles are being washed,” said Brig. Nkaiseng Molefe, station commander in Bethlehem. An additional warning was given that owners face the risk of encountering difficulties with insurance companies and that the vehicle might never be recovered.
