Water supply improved

2017-04-26 06:00

Work on the bulk water project to supply water in the Mantsopa Local Municipality is expected to be concluded soon.

The completion month for the project is August this year.

The project is conducted as a partnership between the municipality and the Department of Water and Sanitation.

Kido Thoabala, spokesperson of the department in the Free State, said the project commenced in November 2014 and the total cost is R10 million.

“When the project commenced, the aim was to augment existing bulk water pipelines in Manyatseng and to make provision for a supply to the newly-built hospital in Ladybrand.

“The project will supply the new hospital with adequate water and also the nearest reservoir, in order to meet the demands of the growing community in Manyatseng,” said Thoabala.

She said the water project entailed the construction of a 250 mm-sized gravity feed pipeline of 2,5 km from the concrete reservoir to the hospital, as well as a future upgrading of the pipeline from the Genoa water treatment works to the reservoirs.

Thoabala said the project would also provide water for local schools.
