Wits FC blazing trail, Dla2 in hot pursuit

2016-04-13 06:00

BETHLEHEM. – Mighty Wits FC from Bohlokong near Bethlehem keeps leading the South African Football Association’s (Safa) Thabo Mofutsanyana South African Breweries (SAB) League, as their challengers, Dla2 FC from the Monontsha Village in Qwaqwa, is choking.

With two league games remaining for Wits, they will be hoping to win and pray Dla2, who has four games remaining, lose.

Wits are at the top of the log table with 54 points in 27 games, while Dla2 are second with 48 points in 26 games. Also, Clarence Galaxy FC cannot be ruled out of the race, as they are third with 47 points in 27 games.

The title race saw them coming home with a point after they had played to a 2-2 draw against Junior Sport FC. Dla2 lost by 1-2 to Rhino FC on their home turf in the Bluegumbosch Stadium in Qwaqwa on Sunday (10/04). Galaxy also failed to secure three points against the relegation candidates of Shooting Stars.

The relegation battle is also heating up. At least six teams are fighting to avoid relegation. Royal Night and Shooting Stars – at 15th and 16th place on the table respectively – look like they will have to pack their bags should they fail to win their next encounters.

The remaining games will decide who will join these two teams in relegation, as the league has to axe three teams to accommodate Maluti FET College, who are likely to be relegated from the ABC Motsepe League.

Karolo FC, Rhino, Ace Mates and United Wanderus are the other teams still in the relegation dogfight.
