Women’s teams unbeaten

2016-06-08 06:00

AFTER six weeks of action in the Free State Sasol Women’s League, AC Milan and Bloemfontein Celtic remain unbeaten in their respective streams, A and B. They have collected maximum points, 18, in all six fixtures of the first leg of the league. Their impressive start of the campaign sees them topping their respective streams.

There are eight clubs in each stream competition for the top spot. The two stream winners are set to meet later in the year to compete for the Free State championship, with the provincial winner automatically going through to the national play-offs to compete for the Sasol Women’s League national championship.

Oozing confidence after an unbeaten six games record, Milan and Celtic are going into week seven of the competition, determined to continue their onslaught in their forthcoming fixtures scheduled for Saturday (11/06) and Sunday (12/06). Milan will tackle bottom-placed Ayebush at the Botshabelo Outdoor Centre (Saturday), while Celtic will meet Kolisang Ladies at the Westdene Stadium in Bloemfontein. Victory for each team will see them intensifying the prospects of winning their respective stream, A or B.

The potential challenges in the B stream are Tsunami Queens in second place (15 points) and Black Urban in third place (12 points). In the A stream, the challengers are Simunye Ladies in second place (12 points) and Central University of Technology Free State (10 points). The four teams’ task is to keep up the competition and to ensure they remain in contention for runner-up positions in the two streams.

Tsunami’s superior goal difference, 93, will prove fundamental in determining the runner-up prize winner should they finish the season on equal points with Urban.

Saturday fixtures: Mamello Ladies vs Kovsie: Meloding sportground; Tumahole Ladies vs Grassland Ladies: Fezile Dabi Stadium; Happy Ladies vs Lovelife: Makwane Stadium; Nigol vs Mo2KFA: Bohlokong Stadium. Sunday fixtures: Urban vs Tsunami: Botshabelo Outdoor; CUT vs Simunye: Zuka Baloyi.
