Work-seekers can register

2016-02-03 06:00

AN ever-increasing unemployment rate continues to influence the Free State and its economy.

For this reason, the Public Employment Services unit of the Department of Labour will embark on a month-long work-seeker registration campaign throughout the whole province.

According to Josial Ramokoena, provincial communications officer of the Free State, the campaign is aimed at registering as many work-seekers as possible.

This will be done on a system called the Employment Services of South Africa (Essa).

This system has been developed to register both work-seekers and work opportunities that have been supplied by employers looking for workers. Once a job-seeker is registered, the platform matches him or her with the best available job opportunities.

“This system is one of the initiatives the government – and the Department of Labour in particular – came up with to try and negate the effects of joblessness, poverty and inequality,” Ramokoena said.

These employment services are offered free of charge to members of the public and employers alike.

“We encourage all work-seekers to heed our call and come in numbers to seize this golden opportunity and register as workseekers,” Marsha Bronkhorst, the chief director of Provincial Operations for the Free State, said.
