A THUMBS-UP was given to the Tsantsabane Youth Advisory Centre (Y-Centre) for its popularity and it striving to become a popular hub for young people in the municipal area.

The Y-Centre was established as a result of an innovative partnership between loveLife, a national non-profit organisation, and Kumba Iron Ore Kolomela Mine. According to Hendre Jacobs, the Tsantsabane Y-Centre manager, the centre, that is located in the central business district, serves on average 1 300 users on a monthly basis.

It offers a basket of developmental services as a one-stop shop for youth.

Amongst the services offered by the Y-Centre are: a meeting and conference facility, advisory and counselling services, basic computer courses, free internet and computer access, CV typing, copies and fax and other innovative skills development programmes.

“All services are free of charge and school children flock in the afternoons to the Y-centre to do homework, whilst unemployed youth utilise the facility for job-hunting,” the centre manager said.
