Youth needed, said Holomisa

AFTER 18 years at the helm, the president of the United Democratic Movement (UDM), Bantu Holomisa, said he would avail himself again this year for his party’s top position when it holds its elective conference in December.

The UDM will hold its fifth national congress in Bloemfontein from 11 to 13 December.

“I am still to break the record of OR Tambo, Joe Slovo and even Blade Nzimande. I am still too young (60) to even think of throwing in the towel,” said Holomisa.

Holomisa admitted that young blood was needed in the party.

“The youth are now coming back from universities and professional spaces and are supporting the party. Then you have people like Kwankwa in parliament.”

The UDM chief whip in parliament, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa (35), was seen at the forefront of the parliamentary workers’ protest this week. He stopped police from firing stun grenades at protesters.
