THE Bloemfontein police announced that those breaking law and order during the Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe) will be in trouble and laws must be followed.

Strict action will be taken in cases of criminal incidents relating to bad behavior due to alcohol abuse.

There will be zero tole-rance against those breaking the law, drinking alcohol in public, public indecency, theft out of motor vehicles and street robberies.

The anti-crime operation has been in full swing since Friday (30/09), with law enforcement agents guarding against any criminal activities.

Capt. Chaka Marope, spokesperson of the Parkroad Police Cluster, said law enforcement agencies will conduct roadblocks at areas identified as hotspots.

The aim of this is to promote road safety, prevent vehicle hijackings and detect the transportation of stolen goods.

It is also done to ensure compliance with the Road Traffic Act, especially driving under the influence of alcohol.

Marope said there will be foot and vehicle patrols to intensify safety measures.

According to Marope, the foot patrols are meant as a preventative measure against street robberies.

The law enforcement operation is carried out in partnership with the different police units, the Mangaung Metro Municipality security and the Mangaung Metro Traffic Department.
