THE South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod held its district music competition in Greytown for the first time in many years on 8, 9 and 10 April. Umvoti schools did extremely well with three being chosen district champions to represent the district at the provincial eliminations that will be held on the 22, 23 and 24 June at the Durban Playhouse.

Matimatolo Primary Foundation Phase was second and the Zakhele Primary Foundation Phase choir came first out of four categories. The following day Matimatolo Primary Intermediate Phase choir achieved two wins and Zakhele won the male voice contest.

Busana High won almost all the categories in the Secondary B Section on 10 April. Greytown Mayor Cllr Thami Ngubane welcomed the visitors to Umvoti Municipality and donated trophies for the champions of district. Appreciation was expressed to the mayor for his words of wisdom. It was the first time a competition of this magnitude received such a reception and honour at Umvoti. - BCB Ntanzi (Umzinyathi District music convenor).
