From the ditch

2015-06-17 06:00

YOUR intrepid writer has returned from his travels to Zanzibar and is back at the helm, just in time for the first round of the singles championship. Unfortunately, Bryan’s travels did not do his bowls much good and he found himself 12-0 down before he found his feet against last year’s champion Chris Fischer and despite a valiant fight back eventually lost 21-16 on the 20th end.

Jacques Minnaar narrowly won by one point from Wolfie Lubowitzki, so the top seed survived the first round. Gerhard Balzer had all the experience to oust Jordan in the other singles match. Still to play are Wessel Pretorius and Francois van Rooyen while Ernie Weyks is to meet Herbert Balzer. The Pannar trips will have been and gone by Wednesday, so if you didn’t play, tough luck. Contact bowls club members if you are not on the list for fun days as held yesterday.
