AS you read this, the high school is experiencing a back-to-basics lifestyle in “darkest Africa­”, the venue for this year’s bush camp.

With no electricity and no cellphone signal, this is a huge adjustment for some pupils - but one which, every time that we return from bush camp, everyone wants to experience again.

However, it’s not all about survival skills - debating, co-operative learning tasks, basic first aid, bird, butterfly and tree-spotting, eco-issues, speech and drama and even sport will keep everyone very busy in between preparing meals, learning to live together harmoniously and the odd moment of free time.

At the same time, the primary school’s Grade 1 to Grade 6 pupils are at White Mountain Lodge for their annual camp, where they too, have a busy outdoor educational programme. The Grade 7 pupils are somewhere in Mpumalanga, seeing a part of our beautiful country that many have never seen before - learning about the history of our country, its settlers and our natural heritage. We wish all our pupils safe travels and a fun, but serious, learning time
