Lake now closed to public and are warned about fire hazards

2015-10-21 06:00

AN important notice for all residents of Umvoti appears on page 12 of today’s Greytown Gazette.

Lake Merthley, which stands at 13%, has now been closed to all members of the public.

This closure will apply until further notice – hopefully after those much-needed and expected rains arrive.

Anyone found entering into the lake area without written permission from the municipality will be dealt with in terms of the law.

Guy Fawkes on 5 November and Diwali on 11 November are usually marked by the letting off of fireworks – there are numerous laws issued by the government and municipalities throughout the country governing the sale and letting off of fireworks.

Umvoti Municpality has issued a warning in regard to the lighting of fireworks, lighting garden reuse, etc., that fines will be issued for any damage in terms of the Umvoti Municipal Fire Brigade by-law.

It has now become a weekly appeal, but there are still irresponsible uncaring residents who are wasting precious water.

Anyone found damaging JoJo tanks, washing vehicles, leaving taps open, etc., will be fined in terms of the by-laws.
