No more late birth registrations

2015-05-20 06:00

IN terms of South African law all births must be registered with the Department of Home Affairs within 30 days – over that period is regarded as late registration. However, from the end of 2015 the “late” registration will fall away and births must be registered within 30 days. It is likely that if this is not done a fine will be imposed as from the beginning of 2016.

Spokesperson for the Greytown Department of Home Affairs said that several “hot spots” have been identified where births were being registered late:

Vukaphonisi

Gcotoyi

Kranskop

Hermannsburg (Eseleni)

Matimatolo

Mjegabantu

Muden

The Department of Home Affairs urges parents to register births as soon as possible, and not later than 30 days so that the births are recorded on the National Population Register
